Bright Data is one of the biggest names in proxies, web scraping and data collection. It sells residential, datacenter and ISP proxies in 195 countries, plus scraping tools such as Web Unlocker and a SERP API, and it’s priced for companies rather than hobbyists. In this Bright Data review we look at proxy types and coverage, what you’ll really pay, performance, IP sourcing and compliance, and what users on G2 and Trustpilot say. Prices, KYC rules and ratings were checked on Bright Data’s own pages on 20 October 2026.

Our verdict

Bright Data is the most complete toolkit in this category: a 400M+ residential pool, targeting down to ASN and mobile carrier, and ready-made unblocking tools that save you from writing your own retry logic. For data teams doing web scraping on well-protected sites, that combination is hard to match.

It’s also expensive and increasingly locked down. Residential proxies cost $8/GB at list price, monthly plans start at $499, and since July 2026 new residential access goes only to verified companies. If you’re a solo developer or a small team, you’ll pay more and wait longer than with simpler providers.

✓ Best for

  • Enterprise teams working with large volumes of data
  • Companies scraping sites with strong anti-bot protection
  • Organizations with strict compliance and security requirements
  • Teams that want ready-made tools like Web Unlocker instead of building their own

Skip if

  • You work alone or on small projects
  • Your proxy budget is under about $500 a month
  • You want quick, self-service residential access without company KYC

Proxy types and network

Bright Data sells four proxy types, though one is now closed to new customers. Here’s the overview.

TypePoolPrice fromBest for
Residential400M+ IPs$8/GB ($4/GB with current promo)Localized scraping and price monitoring on well-protected sites
Datacenter1.3M+ IPs$0.60/GB or $0.90/IPLarge-scale collection where speed and cost matter most
ISP (static)1.3M+ IPs$8/GB or $1.30/IPLong sessions, account work and repeated requests from one IP
Mobile7M+ IPsNot sold to new customersExisting mobile zones only

Residential proxies. Bright Data residential proxies draw on more than 400 million IPs in 195 countries, with targeting by country, state, city, ZIP code, ASN and carrier. That depth is what makes localized scraping and price monitoring work on heavily protected websites.

Datacenter proxies. Shared and dedicated datacenter IPs for jobs where speed and cost control come first and you don’t need the IP of a real home user. One caveat: Bright Data’s own pages quote both 1.3M+ and 770K+ for this pool.

ISP proxies. Static, residential-registered IPs that stay the same over time, which suits long sessions, managing accounts and repeated requests.

Mobile proxies. Bright Data’s 4G and 5G mobile IPs were used for mobile testing, ad validation and platforms with tight request limits. Since April 2026 they’re no longer sold to new customers; only existing mobile zones keep working.

Coverage and protocols. The network covers 195 countries and supports HTTP(S) and SOCKS5 through Proxy Manager. Which targeting options you get depends on the proxy type.

Pricing: what you’ll actually pay

Bright Data mixes pay-as-you-go with monthly commitments, and different products bill per GB, per IP or per request. These were the residential and datacenter prices on 20 October 2026.

PlanPriceRateNotes
Residential, pay-as-you-goNo commitment$8/GB$4/GB with the current 50% promo

Billing details worth knowing.

  • The $499 figure is a minimum monthly spend, not a charge for the gigabytes you actually use.
  • Billing runs on calendar months. Join mid-month and your first minimum is prorated to the days you’re active.
  • Products bill differently: per GB, per IP or per request.
  • Promotions cut the headline price sharply, so check the standard rate that applies when they end.
  • Subscription fees are non-refundable.

What that means in practice. At list price, pay-as-you-go residential traffic costs $8/GB, so 20 GB a month is $160. The $499 plan only works out cheaper once you’d use more than about 62 GB a month ($499 ÷ $8). While the promo halves the pay-as-you-go rate to $4/GB, that break-even point moves up to about 125 GB.

Performance

Bright Data claims a success rate of up to 99.95% and 99.99% uptime, but those are its own figures, not independently validated ones. In Proxyway’s tests, the global residential pool reached about 98.96% success with an average response time of 1.12 seconds. The large pool and wide geography help with hard targets, but your real results will depend on the site and your request settings.

Tools beyond proxies

This is where Bright Data pulls away from cheaper providers. Web Unlocker handles CAPTCHAs and anti-bot protection for you, so you don’t have to tune proxies and retry logic yourself. Alongside it you get Scraping Browser, a SERP API, Web Scraper IDE for building and configuring scrapers, an open-source Proxy Manager and a marketplace of ready-made datasets.

Integrations. Bright Data works with Puppeteer, Playwright, Selenium and Scrapy, with 29 anti-detect browsers including AdsPower, Kameleo and Multilogin, and with tools such as Proxifier, FoxyProxy, SwitchyOmega, n8n and Zapier.

Getting started: signup, KYC and support

Signing up is self-serve, and datacenter proxies, ISP proxies and Web Unlocker are available straight away. Residential is different. Since July 2026, new residential proxy access goes only to registered companies: every request is reviewed by Bright Data’s compliance team, personal email addresses such as Gmail or Outlook aren’t accepted, and you’ll get an answer within 48 hours. You also need to add funds first, because the KYC check isn’t available on the free trial.

Support. You get 24/7 support from engineers, with 15-minute priority responses under SLA and an average email response of about 14 minutes. Customers on the right plans also get a dedicated account manager and proactive monitoring. The documentation covers proxy setup, the APIs and the scraping tools.

The learning curve. It’s steep. With this many products, pricing models and settings, expect to spend some time in the docs before everything clicks.

Is Bright Data safe and legit?

Bright Data started out as Luminati Networks, which was spun out of Hola, a free VPN built on users sharing bandwidth. It rebranded in 2021 and has been majority-owned by EMK Capital since 2017. Today it says residential IPs join the network through the Bright SDK on an opt-in basis: users must agree to take part and can opt out.

It declares GDPR and CCPA compliance and lists ISO 27001, SOC 2/3 and CSA STAR certifications. Its rules ban certain uses, including adult content, gambling and crypto services, and residential access requires KYC. Bright Data also doesn’t position its proxies as a personal anonymity tool.

It has defended the scraping of public data in court. In January 2024 a US federal judge rejected Meta’s claims, and Meta then dropped the case. X’s lawsuit was dismissed in May 2024, although the judge later allowed X to refile some claims.

So, is Bright Data legit? Yes. It’s an established company with published sourcing, security certifications and a customer vetting process. Whether it’s safe for your project depends on staying within its terms of service.

Best use cases

Web scraping. Use Bright Data proxies to collect large amounts of data from many sites and regions, automate it and get localized results.

SERP and rank tracking. Track search results and rankings across countries and cities, and analyze what local users actually see.

Price monitoring. Compare prices, discounts and stock across regions to keep an eye on competitors and market shifts.

Ad verification. Route through a Bright Data proxy in each target country to check how ads display for local audiences and spot campaign violations.

Brand protection. Monitor sites and marketplaces for fakes, unauthorized offers and misuse of your brand.

AI training data. Gather data from many sources and 195 locations to build datasets for training and evaluating AI models.

What users say

For this Bright Data review we read user feedback on G2, where it holds 4.7/5 from 348 reviews, and on Trustpilot, where it holds 4.4/5 from 1,031 reviews. Both were checked on 20 October 2026.

The praise is consistent: a wide choice of proxies, stable, high-quality connections, accurate geotargeting and good results on difficult sites. Reviewers also rate the scraping infrastructure, Web Unlocker, the documentation and the support team.

The complaints are just as consistent. High cost comes up most often, especially for small projects, followed by the complexity of the product range. For simple, low-traffic jobs the platform can feel like overkill, and the KYC process makes a quick start harder.

FAQ

Is Bright Data legit and safe?

Yes. It’s an established provider that declares GDPR and CCPA compliance, holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certifications, and vets its customers. See “Is Bright Data safe and legit?” above.

Where does Bright Data get its residential IPs?

Through the Bright SDK on an opt-in basis: users agree to join the network and can opt out.

How much does Bright Data cost?

Residential proxies cost $8/GB pay-as-you-go ($4 during the current promo), or from $499 a month on a monthly plan. New accounts get a $2 trial credit for 7 days, plus $5 after adding a payment method.

Do I need to pass KYC to use Bright Data?

For residential proxies, yes: only registered companies are approved, after a manual review of up to 48 hours, and personal emails aren’t accepted. Datacenter proxies, ISP proxies and Web Unlocker don’t need KYC.

Is Bright Data worth it vs Oxylabs or cheaper providers?

It’s worth it if you need a very large IP pool, precise geotargeting and advanced scraping tools. For smaller projects, a cheaper provider is usually the better fit.

What is Web Unlocker?

A Bright Data tool for collecting data from sites with advanced CAPTCHA and anti-bot protection. It automates much of the request handling, so you don’t have to configure proxies and retry logic yourself.

Is Bright Data good for beginners?

Not really. The range of products, pricing models and settings takes time to learn. The docs help, but for simple tasks a simpler provider is easier.

Is Bright Data the same as Luminati?

Yes. Bright Data was called Luminati Networks until it rebranded in 2021, so older reviews under that name may describe outdated products or terms.
